Justification for my Portfolio Designs

For the first piece I chose a go-kart business as my subject. I chose a free vector image of a go-kart that was very busy and chaotic to emphasize the extreme factor in the sport of go-karting. This is meant to appeal to the adrenaline junkies and is also meant to show that the go-karts are fast sporting karts rather than the slow amusement park go-carts that people are used to. The business will be indoors with all electric go-karts thus allowing for a late closing time as shown on the flyer.

I chose to make a bold statement that borders on reverse psychology and triggers the competitive nature of the readers exposed to the ad, which increases their motivation to attend the go-kart track. The statement was "you think you're fast?!". I also mentioned that attendees would be competing against Charleston's best which will hopefully have the readers picturing themselves as a potential hot shot in Charleston also increasing their motivation to come by the track. Lastly, I included other relevant information such as pricing and age restrictions as well as the company address so that customers are well informed upon their arrival.

The Album cover I designed was supposed to convey a very artsy feel. I chose a nice picture of light bulbs in the outdoors to convey a sense of unusualness. I wrote the band's name vertically on the left hand side of the album cover and the album name over one of the light bulbs. I chose an artsy font for both. The backside of the album has a picture of a concert hall where the music would traditionally be played. The title tracks are obove the concert hall picture so the viewer can appreciate the full picture. I designed the record logo with two R's and a vinyl record behind it. The R's stand for Ribeiro Records. The track titles are pretty random which is a common characteristic of artistic bands I feel.

The organization event that I chose to promote was a corporate basketball tournament. I included all of the relevant information such as the dates and times as well as where to sign up. I specified that the teams would be chosen at random which I think increases participation due to a more balanced tournament skill wise. I chose a picture with a bunch of basketballs as a background and had circles with letters spelling out "half-court" which is intentionally made as one of the focal points to decrease the intimidation that employees may have of playing a full court tournament!

Finally, the company logo that I chose was for the landscaping company. I used the polygon tool to make an unusual shape which I used as a landscape. I then used it again with a star inset to make the shape of the trees. I kept it simple but also included the name of the company because I felt that was important to a landscaping company which usually does not have a large market share in its industry. I used the text path tool to write landscaping along the shape of the logo to emphasize that the company can customize the customer's land to their liking. I put the company name above the logo so that it is the first thing the viewer is exposed to, increasing the chances of them remembering the company's name.
